Randall L. Sullivan RN Sunrise: January 4, 1931 Sunset: February 24, 2014 Randall L. Sullivan RN, BHsc. was born in Birmingham, Alabama as the eldest daughter of Thomas P. Short Jr. And Zerlena Short on January 4, 1931. She passed away peacefully in her home in Long Beach, California on February 24, 2014. The family moved to Detroit, Michigan when Randall was a young child, where she distinguished herself early as a leader in every endeavor she attempted. She graduated from Cass High School in Detroit, Michigan and set out on a life of adventure and discovery that would take her to places as far away as Japan and South Africa, among others. She served five years in The US Navy, graduated from Navy Hospital Corpsman School, and became a laboratory technician while on active duty. She was honorably discharged and later became a licensed vocational nurse, then a registered nurse. She worked in various areas of nursing and distinguished herself as one of the nation's pioneers in "Skin Integrity Nursing." She shaped this role while employed for decades at the VA Medical Center, Long Beach, California. After retirement she worked alongside internationally known medical researcher, Dr. Ronald Sherman as the principal research assistant in forging groundbreaking research on "Maggot Therapy in Wound Healing." Randall was a Charter Member of Psi Eta Chapter, Chi Eta Phi Nursing Sorority in 1991, and served as a leader in that organization until her passing. During her lifetime she received numerous awards and recognitions for her dedicated community service work. She lived her belief in God through her always generous service to others. Preceded in death by her sister - Lillie B. Short, Randall is survived by her brother, Thomas P. Short Jr., one Neice, Paulette Harrison, two nephews-Mark Harrison and Stanley Harrison; two God daughters, and a host of other relatives and friends. A private memorial service will be held on March 5, 2014 with family and closest friends. The family requests that friends and relatives all over the country simply pause for a moment of silent prayer at 7 pm (Pacific Time) on March 5, 2014 in her memory. Psi Eta Chapter hosted the 2012 Southwest Regional Meeting, Chi Eta PHi Sorority Inc. This March, 2012 Southwest Regional conference was attended by professional nurses from Southern California, Colorado, and Florida. Representatives from the National Black Nurses Association, The Multicultural Nurses Association, and the Nigerian Nurses Association were also in attendance. Speakers included Dr. Patricia Hinchberger, California State University- Dominguez Hills; Dr. Rachel Plotkin Olumese RN - St Mary's Medical Center, Long Beach; Dr Eric Williams - National Black Nurses Association, and Professor, Santa Monica College; Ernesta Wright, Founder and Director - The G.r.e.e.n Foundation; Dr. Mildred Fennell, National President, Chi Eta Phi Nursing Sorority Inc. and Dr. Gloria Willingham-Toure', Basileus , Psi Eta Chapter. The annual Humanitarian Award was presented to Dr. Loucine Huckabay, Director, Nursing Programs, California State University, Long Beach, in recognition of her years of Service to Humanity.
Psi Eta Chapter, Chi Eta Phi Sorority Inc is hosting a "Festival of The Yams" on November 15, 2013 from 7:30p - 12 mn at the Diamond Bar Golf Course Club House, 22751 Golden Springs Drive, Diamond Bar,California. All guests are asked to wear African attire in honor of the history of the continent. African drumming, poetry readings, dinner and dancing will bring the group together in celebration. All attendees will receive valuable information on relevant health issues to take back to our local communities. MARK YOUR CALENDARS AND WATCH FOR THE FLYERS! Space is limited and early RSVPs are suggested.
Reminder: Saturday, August 3, 2013, Psi Eta Chapter, Chi Eta Phi Sorority Inc will join with several community service organizations to provide a day of "public awareness" focused on the importance of health awareness, health screenings, and healthy lifestyle choices.
